Bertram L. Ashe Educational Foundation 2023 Scholarship Awards

As we honor the legacy of Dr. Bertram L. Ashe who passed away earlier this year, the Bertram L. Ashe Educational Foundation is pleased to award scholarships to Kyran Taylor and Stanley Walker for the 2023 academic school year.

Kyran Taylor, West Virginia University

Kyran Taylor is a freshman at West Virginia University. His desire is to teach, lead and mentor kids just like his mentors did for him. “The Ashe Foundation Scholarship will help me with my tuition, which will allow me to further my education to become the first male, minority teacher in my family. Speaking from experience, I feel black, male, teachers are necessary, they’re like fathers away from the home, they’re relatable, demand respect and are easier to talk with without feeling judged. I want to be a positive example for young males of all races.” We congratulate Kyran on his award and are delighted to assist him on his academic journey.

Stanley Walker, University of Missouri-Columbia

Stanley Walker is a freshman at the University of Missouri-Columbia majoring in journalism. “Beyond the tangible benefits, the Ashe Foundation Scholarship holds a symbolic significance for me. It signifies a community that believes in the potential of aspiring students like myself, providing not just financial aid but a network of support. This support extends beyond the monetary value of the scholarship; it is a reminder that his aspirations are valid and achievable, even in the face of personal tragedy.” We congratulate Stanley on his award and are delighted to assist him as he embarks on his academic journey.
